ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - On Monday, Albemarle County's Architectural Review Board approved plans for a Wawa convenience store.

Plans were approved for the Pantops location after making several changes to meet the board’s requirements. The store will be located on Richmond Road, near Stony Point Road, next to the former Goodwill store.

The final site plan is still under review by staff, but because the plan is a by-right use, it does not require approval from the Planning Commission or the Board of Supervisors. WAWA real estate engineer Jeb Bell said he is looking forward to breaking ground.

"There’s a lot of site work to do, clear the site get it ready, there's a couple of months work in that," he said. "Our construction for buildings is usually about 6 months but it'll be 2-3 months before we can start that part of it. We are looking at 9 months to a year probably.”

Another store has already been approved for the intersection of Route 29 at Profitt Road.
