CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Mamadi Diakite will return to the UVa men's basketball team for his senior season.

The 6-foot-9 forward announced his decision on Instragram at 11:15 PM on Wednesday night, which was 45 minutes before the midnight deadline for players to withdraw.


In the post, Diakite said, "I am excited to announce that after testing the waters and getting great exposure and encouraging feedback, I have decided to return to the University of Virginia for my senior year. I can't wait to join my coaches and teammates and get to work as we try to win another one."

By declaring for the draft, the former Blue Ridge star was able to work out for NBA teams, and participate in pre-draft scouting camps, to see if he was ready for the league.

Diakite scored 7.4 points per game for the 'Hoos last season, and had a team-high 63 blocks.

His former teammates, De'Andre Hunter, Ty Jerome, and Kyle Guy, have all said they are staying the in draft.

The 2019 NBA Draft will be held on June 20th in Brooklyn, NY.
