Donor to Match Money Raised for Charlottesville Tom Sox
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - An anonymous donor wants to support the Charlottesville Tom Sox baseball team this season.
The Play For 100K campaign will help the Tom Sox cover the tens of thousands of dollars it costs to kick off the summer season. Money is also needed to help pay off the $250,000 the nonprofit spent to renovate the Charlottesville High School baseball field.
The donor is pledging to match every dollar raised through the end of June up to $100,000.
"It cost a lot of money to run this on an annual basis and we have sponsors that help us out on an annual basis but there's still always some gaps to fill and the budget is always very tight so I think one thing this will help us on is that we're not always pinching pennies and the annual budget can go a little smoother," said Tom Sox treasurer John Scaglione.
The Tom Sox kick-off the season next Friday, May 31 in Harrisonburg.
