ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - The Albemarle County Police Department says it is investigating a suspicious death along the Rivanna Trial.

The call came in around 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, for a report of a male body located in the area of the 500 block of Peter Jefferson Parkway near Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital.

The victim has not been identified at this time.

Authorities have not yet said how long the deceased had been on the trail, though they say there’s no threat to the public at this time.

Anyone that was on the Rivanna Trail between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. Thursday that may have seen something suspicious is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000 or email crimestoppers@albemarle.org.

The Albemarle County Police Department said early Friday, May 17, that more information will be released when available.

Around 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, Albemarle County Police Officers responded to a call for a deceased male found on the trails along the Rivanna River behind Peter Jefferson Parkway.

The victim has not been identified at this time.

This is being investigated as a suspicious death. More information will be released when available. There is no active threat to the community at this time.
