Charlottesville Police Arrest Man in Connection with Armed Home Invasion
On May 10, officers with the Charlottesville Police Department responded to the 500 block of Harris Road for the report of an armed home invasion.

On May 10, 2019, at 10:40 p.m. patrol officers with the Charlottesville Police Department responded to the 500 block of Harris Road for the report of an armed home invasion.
Officers learned that the suspect, who fled the scene prior to their arrival, fired numerous shots inside the residence. Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.
As a result of the subsequent investigation, warrants were obtained for 24-year-old Ramel Laquinn Smith, a Charlottesville resident. On May 15, 2019, Smith was arrested in Albemarle County.
Smith is charged with:
Virginia § 18.2-91 - Entering dwelling house, etc., with intent to commit other felony
Virginia § 18.2-51 - Attempted malicious wounding (2 counts)
Virginia § 18.2-308.2 - Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
Virginia § 18.2-53.1 - Use of a firearm in committing felony
Virginia § 18.2-279 – Discharging a firearm within a building
Charlottesville Ordinance Sec. 33-6 - Discharge of a firearm
Smith is being held without bond at the Albemarle/Charlottesville Regional Jail.
