Albemarle County Works to Address E-Cigarette Policy in School System
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Albemarle County schools are working to address the e-cigarette policy in the school system.
On Thursday, May 9, the school board got an update on how the division handles the use of e-cigarettes and vapes among students.
Division leaders say they hope that increasing the age to buy tobacco to 21 in the commonwealth will help, but they say it’s a nationwide problem.
"This is a really serious issue for us and one that we know is going to require a great deal of work going forward for us as a division and frankly for the nation as a whole,” Nicholas King, the Albemarle County student services officer, said.
The school division is part of a number of localities hosting a community-wide town hall on vaping that’s scheduled for Tuesday, May 14, at Charlottesville High School.
