WEYERS CAVE, Va. (WVIR) - The new bio-science building at Blue Ridge Community College is close to being down, and just in time.

BRCC is partnering with James Madison University to provide the workforce component of the $1 billion expansion with Merck. The global healthcare company provides innovative medicines and vaccines.

The expansion expects to add 100 new jobs and people will need training. BRCC aims to help meet those needs by training technicians, managers, and everyone in between.

“Vaccine production requires a more technically skilled person that understands science and understands the manufacturing elements of it,” said BRCC President Dr. John Downey. “The work we’ll be doing with Merck will be in partnership with them to produce the type of employee that they’re looking for.”

The bio-science building will be open this fall. It will also house the nursing program and a new paramedic program.
