Rain-Shortened First Day of 'Virginia Challenge' Track & Field Meet

Charlottesville, Va. – Redshirt freshman Halle Hazzard (Commack, N.Y.) took first-place honors in the 100 meters, with a personal-best time of 11.61, to highlighted UVA's results during the first day of the Virginia Challenge. Inclement weather postponed the evenings competition. Those events are rescheduled for Saturday.
Senior Ciara Leonard (Elkins Park, Pa.) also set a PR in the 100 meters, crossing the finish line at 12.34.
Several other Cavaliers also posted PR marks during Friday's competition. In the 800 meters, freshman Maryanna Lansing (Menands, N.Y.) placed third at 2:12.65. Freshman Zoe Rice (Ashburn, Va.) finished eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.06 meters (39-6 ¾).
In the women's javelin, Jessica Geller (Demarest, N.J.) was 14th with a season-best throw of 40.35 meters (132-4).
