Mamadi Diakite Declares for NBA Draft
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - In UVa basketball program history, only three players had ever declared early for the NBA Draft, prior to this season.
In the last three days, they've had four.
Junior forward Mamadi Diakite became the fourth member of the National Champions to declare on Wednesday.
Ty Jerome and De'Andre Hunter made their announcements on Monday, with Kyle Guy following suit on Tuesday.
Diakite scored 7.4 points and grabbed 4.4 rebounds per game for the 'Hoos this season.
The 6-foot-9 junior also led the team with 63 blocks.
Diakite is a native of Guinea, Africa, and played two seasons at the Blue Ridge School.
The NBA Draft combine runs from May 15th through May 19th.
Early entrants have until May 29th to withdraw from the draft and retain their NCAA eligibility.
As of this season, players are allowed to be represented by agents certified NBPA and NCAA during the draft process, provided they end the relationship if the player decides to return to school.
The student-athletes can now also return to school if they go undrafted without losing eligibility, but only if they participated in the NBA combine.
The NBA Draft is on June 20th.
