18-Year-Old Charged With Sexual Battery in Albemarle County
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Search warrants reveal new details about a trio of alleged sexual assaults in Albemarle County.
On Wednesday, April 17, the teenager accused of the crimes went before a judge. 18-year-old Alex Franklin Hovey was charged with two misdemeanor counts of sexual battery and one felony count of aggravated sexual battery.
Court documents reveal one of Hovey’s three alleged victims was a 92-year-old woman. The search warrant claims Hovey grabbed the senior from behind while she was getting her newspaper on Monday, April 15, forcing off her pants and underwear.
Police said the first incident happened on February 26, 2019, in the area of Riverbend Drive. The other incident happened on April 7, 2019, in the Albemarle Square Shopping Center. In both cases, police said Hovey grabbed them from behind.
Both of those locations had something else in common, Goodwill stores. The search warrant pointed out that Hovey was employed at stores near the alleged attack sites.
Hovey made his first appearance via video conference in Albemarle County General District Court on Wednesday.
Authorities described Hovey as a serial predator in the making. Hovey is being held at Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail, without bond.
Hovey has a public defender and will have a preliminary hearing on May 9, 2019.
