CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Charlottesville community members and business leaders are celebrating the work of a nonprofit that helps teach children life skills.

The 24th Annual ReadyKids Community Breakfast took place Monday morning at the Omni Hotel in downtown Charlottesville. The event highlighted some of ReadyKids’ expansion projects happening over the next year.

Lori Wood from Region Ten was awarded Child Advocate of the Year for promoting mental health education for Charlottesville youth.

“I want everyone that lives here to have all the opportunities and services and supports that I had growing up as well,” Wood said.

The breakfast also serves as a fundraiser for the nonprofit. Last year, ReadyKids’ programs impacted the lives of more than 8,000 children and families.
