CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Survivors of sexual assault are speaking out on Saturday night at the University of Virginia.

Dozens gathered at the amphitheater for the annual Take Back the Night vigil on Saturday, April 13.

The event serves as a safe space for students and community members who are survivors of sexual assault to share their stories publicly or anonymously.

“I don't think there are many events out there that encourage so many survivors and nonsurvivors alike to come together in the open and share different kinds of stories about sexual assault, different situations,” Caroline Peters, the event organizer, said.

Members of several community organizations, including the Sexual Assault Resource Agency, were also present during the event to provide support and resources to attendees.
