UPDATE: 

LOUISA CO., Va. - A Louisa man has been charged with 1 felony count of assault on a law enforcement officer in connection with the non-fatal shooting that occurred Saturday morning (April 6). Michael Tyrone Rowe, 32, of Louisa, V.A., is currently being held without bond at Central Virginia Regional Jail in Orange County, Va.   

We are not releasing any additional details at this time as it is an ongoing criminal investigation. State police are in possession of the deputy's body camera and of the 911 recording. Those are both part of the criminal investigative file.


04/06/2019 Virginia State Police Press Release:

At the request of the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, the Virginia State Police is investigating a non-fatal shooting that occurred in the county Saturday morning. 
 
At 8:36 a.m., the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a man stating his location and that he was suicidal. When the deputy arrived at Hillcrest Cemetery in the 19,000 block of Louisa Road, he encountered the male subject who was armed with a firearm and a knife. During the course of the encounter, the male subject was shot. The deputy immediately called for rescue and began administering first aid to the male subject. The male subject was transported to UVA Medical Center and is being treated for serious injuries. 
 
The deputy was not injured in the incident. In accordance with Louisa County Sheriff’s Office policy, the deputy who fired at the subject has been placed on administrative. 
 
The incident remains under investigation.
