CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - The city of Charlottesville has locked in an engineering firm for a big project coming to the Emmet Street Corridor. The city is paying the Richmond based Timmons Group a little more than $1 million.

"This project will transform Emmet Street between Ivy Road/University Avenue and Arlington Boulevard into a complete street that safely accommodates all people, regardless of their abilities or means of travel." - Emmet Street Corridor Website.

The speed limit will also decrease from 35 to 25 miles per hour.

“We've worked things out pretty well and they've completed the conceptual design that was presented to the planning commission and city council and approval authorities approved the conceptual plan which paved the way for the contract or engineering firm to move forward with the next phase which is the full design,” said Alexander Ikefuna, NDS Director.

Some planning meetings are still ahead. When construction will start is still up in the air.
