Community Members Explore African-American History in Charlottesville
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - People are learning more about Charlottesville's African-American history as part of the Tom Tom Festival.
On Thursday afternoon, Charlene Green talked about the history of the city's Vinegar Hill neighborhood at Vinegar Hill Theater. Green is the manager of Charlottesville's Office of Human Rights.
Green says these conversations are necessary as people talk about how to reconcile the past.
"I think any time there's an opportunity to get to know someone or learn something you're not aware of, it's valuable," Green said. "It provides information to inform any further questions you might have, the narrative that we have in our heads about what things are all about."
Some other neighborhoods Green talked about were Gospel Hill and Pearl Street.
