Staunton Police Work to Trim Down Deer Population
STAUNTON, Va. (WVIR) - The Staunton Police Department culled 51 deer over a two-week period in March.
This is the first culling since 2011, according to Sergeant Katherine Shifflett.
Shifflett says officers with long gun training killed the deer in Staunton Crossing and Montgomery Hall Park.
She named public safety as the biggest reason for the culling, with citing 50 deer-related crashes in 2018 alone.
The Staunton Police Department donated 1,250 pounds of deer meat to Hunters for the Hungry.
