CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - A member of the Charlottesville 12 was honored by the Virginia General Assembly on Wednesday, April 10.

Mr. Alex-Zan, a motivational speaker in Charlottesville, was presented with a resolution recognizing his efforts that span decades, from helping integrate Charlottesville schools in 1959 to motivating kids in the community now.

Delegate David Toscano says Alex-Zan is a great role model for children to do the right thing.

“I feel great in accepting the honor, and as always this honor not only comes to Mr. Alex-Zan, it comes to my mother that set the groundwork, the foundation for Mr. Alex-Zan being one of the Charlottesville 12,” Alex-Zan said.

Alex-Zan says he comes from a family legacy of giving and helping people in the community.

He says his motivation is to continue encouraging children since they’re our future.
