Harrisonburg Police Believe Woman was Hit by Her Own Vehicle

Harrisonburg, Va. – On April 10, 2019 at approximately 1:17 p.m. officers with the Harrisonburg Police Department (HPD) responded to the 100 block of South Carlton Street for an unknown situation. As officers were responding, they were updated by dispatchers that a person had been struck by a vehicle in the parking lot.
Officers were on scene within two minutes and began providing aide to the victim, who was unconscious but breathing. The Harrisonburg Fire Department and Rescue 40 also quickly responded and transported the victim to Sentara Rockingham Memorial Hospital. The extent of her injuries is unknown.
Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicate that the female was getting out of the vehicle that was placed in reverse rather than park when she fell, and the vehicle backed over her lower extremities and chest.
The incident has been determined to have been unintentional and no charges will be placed.
