WAYNESBORO, Va. (WVIR) - A Stuarts Draft man is now charged with second-degree murder after a body was discovered at a Waynesboro motel.

Authorities announced Tuesday, April 9, that 42-year-old Shawn Preston Jones was taken into custody. He was being treated at a hospital for injuries from a single-vehicle car crash on South Delphine Avenue Saturday, April 6.

Investigators believe Jones killed Deborah Jean Allen. She was found dead at the Royal Inn Motel Saturday.

Allen’s death has been ruled a homicide due to blunt force trauma.

Jones is being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail. A hearing Waynesboro Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court is set for Thursday, April 11.

The Waynesboro Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office and the Waynesboro Police Department collaboratively release the following statement.

As a result of the continuing investigation into the discovery of the body of Deborah Jean Allen on Saturday morning in a Royal Inn Motel room, her death has been ruled a homicide due to blunt force trauma. In addition, a Stuarts Draft man has been charged with 2nd-Degree Murder in the case.

Shawn Preston Jones, 42, was taken into custody today at UVA Hospital [sic] in Charlottesville where he had been admitted after being involved in a single-vehicle crash on South Delphine Ave. early Saturday morning, April 6.

He is currently being held without bail at Middle River Regional Jail pending a hearing in Waynesboro Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on Thursday April 11, 2019 at 8:45 A.M.
