Tom Tom Festival Kicks-Off in Charlottesville
The Tom Tom Festival kicked off on Monday with several events occurring throughout Charlottesville.
"The Tom Tom Foundation is a nonprofit organization that celebrates entrepreneurs, civic leaders, and creators who are shaping cities and communities across the nation. Since its inception in 2012, the Foundation’s Spring and Fall programming has showcased over 740 speakers and 330 bands to 186,000 program attendees, and has channeled $2.9 million to new ventures and projects." - Tom Tom Festival 'About' Page.
The festival entered its eighth year of highlighting hometown innovation in cities across America. Organizers hoped the event would connect communities to each other and celebrate Charlottesville.
“It really is an example of all the different programs that touch the Charlottesville community both from the standpoint of entertainment, of community building, and also just looking at innovative organizations that are really driving our community forward,” said Paul Beyer, executive director of the Tom Tom Festival and Foundation.
Several events are sold out for the week, including the Bartender’s Ball held on Monday night.
