Charlottesville Court Yet to Determine if Man Can Stand Trial in Abduction Case
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Mental health is once again delaying the trial for a man accused of trying to take a child off a preschool playground in Charlottesville.
Attorneys from both sides are now waiting on the results of a new competency evaluation for David Antonio Munoz-Perez to see if he is fit to stand trial.
Officers were called out to St. Mark Lutheran Preschool on Alderman Road on the afternoon of April 10, 2017. Staff reported that a man had reached over a fence to try to take one of the children, but then ran off when an employee yelled at him.
Police located a man matching the description given by the preschool’s staff at the nearby 7-Eleven on Ivy Road.
October 2018, a grand jury indicted Munoz-Perez on one count of abduction by force
A hearing in the case is now set for Monday, April 15 in Charlottesville Circuit Court.
