Sheriff's Office: Ryan M. Champlin Indicted on Child Pornography Charges

On January 11, 2019 the Orange County Sheriff’s Office received information from The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children on a possible child pornography case that was occurring in Orange County.
This case was assigned to our ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children) Investigator, Lt. Becky Jones. After a thorough investigation she was able to determine that the IP address utilized to upload child pornography traced back to an address in Lake of the Woods.
Through her investigation she was also able to determine that the person responsible was Ryan M Champlin, age 36. Mr. Champlin has been charged with 5 counts of 18.2-374.1:1, “knowingly possess Child Pornography” and 2 counts of 18.2-472.1 “knowingly fail to register with the Sex Offender and Crimes Against Children Registry.”
Mr. Champlin is also a registered sex offender with convictions of sexual exploitation out of the State of Utah. He moved to Lake of the Woods in late 2018 and is currently being held in the Central Va. Regional Jail with no bond. The investigation is ongoing.
On March 25, 2019, an Orange County grand jury indicted Ryan M. Champlin on 161 counts of “Possession of Child Pornography” in violation of Va. Code Section 18.2-374.1:1.
Mr. Champlin is currently being held in the Central Virginia Regional Jail under no bond.
