CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Demolition is officially underway to make way for Dairy Central in Charlottesville.

On Friday, March 15, crews were outside at the location along Grady and Preston avenues working on the site for phase one of the two-part project.

The groundbreaking for the new mixed-use development happened back in August.

The new building will house office space, a food hall, and retailers.

Phase two will include residential units, along with 20 affordable housing units.

The first phase of the project is set to be completed in early 2020, and phase two in 2021.
