Updated: Jury Finds Man Guilty of Voluntary Manslaughter
WAYNESBORO, Va. (WVIR) - An Augusta County jury has found a man guilty of killing another man in a motel parking lot.
Forty-seven-year-old Darin Davis was charged with voluntary manslaughter.
In Augusta Circuit Court on Wednesday, March 13, prosecutors said the victim, 34-year-old Gary Dustin Mawyer, was unarmed when Davis shot and killed him.
The defense says Mawyer was high on meth, intoxicated, and aggressive, and that Davis was in fear for his life.
The shooting occurred last June in the parking lot outside Colony Motel near Waynesboro.
Video surveillance captured the entire event.
Davis faces up to 10 years in prison, and his sentencing hearing will be held on May 23.
