ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Albemarle High School's Jazz Band has teamed up with some of the Charlottesville area's most talented musicians to help them get to a national competition.

Albemarle's High School Jazz Band is set to perform in Savannah, Georgia for a nationwide competition in April but first, they needed help getting there.

The school's jazz band teamed up with several of central Virginia’s popular musicians and singers for the band's second annual Swing into Spring Concert.

The group performed a number of different songs that were picked to highlight both the band's talents, as well as each performer’s specific style.

The band's director said the concert gave students a chance to learn while also giving them an opportunity to shine.

“It was a no brainer to try put as many of these people together as possible and put them in front of my band. Now all these people when we asked them to do it, they jumped at the chance like it was a great professional opportunity for them,” said Greg Thomas, AHS Band Director.

Proceeds from ticket sales go toward the band's trip to the competition in Savannah, Georgia.

The group will be leaving the first weekend of April and will be competing against some of the top jazz bands across the country.
