Former UVA Professor Could Be Banned from Grounds, Title IX Violation
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - A former University of Virginia English professor could be permanently banned from Grounds for Title Nine violations.
That's according to NBC29’s partners at the Daily Progress.
Title Nine (IX) of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits prejudice on the basis of sex in any education program/activity that receives federal funding.
Under Title IX, discrimination on the basis of sex can include sexual assault, rape, and sexual harassment.
In January, a university investigator found that John Casey sexually harassed two former female graduate students.
On Wednesday, a review panel recommended Casey be banned from University of Virginia Grounds and made ineligible for any paid or unpaid position at the university.
Casey retired last December.
The university's provost has not yet made a final decision on the panel's recommendation.
