Man Pleads Guilty to Involuntary Manslaughter, Drunk Driving in Augusta Co.
AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - A Northern Virginia man has admitted to driving drunk and killing his friend in court in Augusta County.
On Thursday, March 7, 23-year-old Ian Vowels pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and driving under the influence.
Vowels drove drunk in January 2018 and crashed his car on Interstate 81, which killed his 21-year-old friend Ryland Cox who was riding in the car.
Though out on bond, prosecutors say Vowels turned himself in on Thursday to begin serving his time.
Vowels faces up to 11 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for May 24.
