PVCC Named a 'Voter Friendly Campus' by National Organizations

(Charlottesville, VA) – Piedmont Virginia Community College has been recently designated a "Voter Friendly Campus" for 2019 through 2020. With this designation, PVCC is part of a select group of college campuses from around the U.S.
The Voter Friendly Campus initiative is led by two nonpartisan organizations, the Campus Vote Project and NASPA – Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education.Participating institutions will plan and implement practices to encourage students to register and vote in upcoming elections.
“We are very proud of this designation from the Campus Vote Project and NASPA. PVCC takes civic engagement seriously and truly values our students’ leadership in this area,” said Connie Jorgensen, assistant professor of political science.
PVCC’s recent civic activities have included nonpartisan voter registration drives, a Congressional debate and multiple voting awareness events. Planning is currently underway to make civic engagement a cornerstone of the student experience at PVCC.
The Voter Friendly Campus designation recognizes institutions that have set tangible goals, drafted action plans and evaluated efforts to making voting easier. The project seeks to make democracy stronger and citizenship meaningful by ensuring that student voters have a voice.
The institutions designated Voter Friendly Campuses represent a wide range of two-year, four-year, public, private, rural and urban campuses. More information about the institutions that received the Voter Friendly Campus designation for 2019-2020 can be found at www.voterfriendlycampus.org.
