ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors met on Wednesday afternoon to discuss new ways to cross the Rivanna River from Charlottesville into the county.

Board members discussed building bridges as part of its Pantops Master Plan. The Community Development Team will explore several options, including upgrading the existing Free Bridge on Route 250 and building a new span to connect Woolen Mills to lower Pantops.

“There certainly would also strike me as an opportunity for that to be built in somewhere in one of these bends to increase connectivity between the city with our lower Pantops area,” said Vice Chair of the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors Rick Randolph.

The creation of a bridge between Pen and Darden Towe Park is also being considered.
