Delegate Landes Won't Seek Re-Election, Will Run for Augusta Clerk of Court
AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Delegate Steve Landes has announced that he is not seeking re-election to Virginia’s House of Delegates. Instead, Landes said on Tuesday that he is running for Augusta County Clerk of Circuit Court.
Landes said he made this decision last week after current clerk, Carol Brydge, decided to not run for another term.
Landes is currently serving his 12th term representing the 25th District. He says he is not ready for retirement and this is something he has always wanted to do.
“It’s been kind of a whirlwind week, but I think the time is right,” Landes said. “If I want to serve an elected office and have a different challenge and be able to contribute in a different way, this is the time to do it.”
If elected, Landes will make close to $138,000 a year, rather than his current salary of $17,640 as a state delegate.
