WAYNESBORO, Va. (WVIR) - A Waynesboro man will spend 31 years in prison for killing his live-in girlfriend.
Thirty-six-year-old Jonathan Owen Miller pleaded guilty last October to first-degree murder.
He admitted to shooting 25-year-old Rachel Brown in the face after a night of drinking.
In Waynesboro Circuit Court on Friday, February 15, prosecutors say the judge sentenced Miller to 27 years and 11 months behind bars for the murder charge, plus three more years for a gun charge.
Defense attorney Duane Baron says Miller, who’s a bronze star recipient who suffers from depression and alcohol abuse, apologized to Brown's family in court on Friday for what he did.
