Did you know there is a right way to shower?

Apparently, there is.

Texas Dermatologist Dr. Sherry Ingraham believes there are several things you need to be doing in the shower to lower your risk of infection, itching, acne, and dry skin.

Ingraham believes you shouldn't take super hot showers because it can dry your skin, and that can worsen by the type of soap you use. She suggests looking for gentle cleansers like Aveeno, Cerave, and doesn't think anyone should ever use bar soaps.

Another way you could be stripping your skin is with a loofah or washcloth. "You don't have to scrub your skin, buff your skin, loofah your skin to get yourself clean," said Ingraham. "When we scrub off those lipids that we were literally evolutionarily designed to have, we're scrubbing away our protective barrier against the environment and making ourselves more prone to infection."

Ingraham thinks if you really have to use a loofah, you want to throw it away and buy new ones regularly, or wash it with bleach because they are so infested with bacteria.
