CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - A Charlottesville man has been accused of murdering his neighbor.

Police confirm the 55-year-old victim was stabbed to death.

Police arrested 60-year-old Gerald Francis Jackson on Tuesday, January 15, and charged him with second-degree murder.

He's now behind bars without bond.

Officers found the body of Richard Wayne Edwards in his Cherry Street home on Thursday, January 10.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - UPDATE (01/15/2019): 60-year-old Gerald Francis Jackson of Charlottesville was arrested on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, and charged with second-degree murder.

Jackson is the neighbor of the homicide victim, identified as 55-year-old Richard Wayne Edwards.

Jackson is being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail without bond.

UPDATE (01/14/2019): The medical examiner has classified the suspicious death on Cherry Street as a homicide.

The victim has been identified as 55-year-old Richard Wayne Edwards, and his next of kin has been notified.

There is no suspect information at this time.

ORIGINAL (01/10/2019): Officers received a call at approximately 3:45 a.m. Thursday for a suspicious death on the 1100 block of Cherry Street.

Detectives were notified and responded along with evidence technicians. The deceased has been identified as an adult male.

His identity will not be released until next of kin has been notified.

This is being investigated as a suspicious death, and the deceased’s body will be transported to the office of the chief medical examiner.

Officers are awaiting the results of the medical examiner’s findings as well as any evidence collected from the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
