CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Charlottesville police are investigating what they are calling a suspicious death in the Belmont neighborhood.

Police were first called to a house on Cherry Street around 3:45 a.m. Thursday, January 10.

Authorities tell NBC29 the deceased man is believed to be around 50 years old, and his body was transported to the Medical Examiner's Office in Richmond.

The Charlottesville Police Department has not yet released the person's identity to the public.

The investigation is ongoing.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - Officers received a call at approximately 3:45 a.m. Thursday for a suspicious death on the 1100 block of Cherry Street.

Detectives were notified and responded along with evidence technicians. The deceased has been identified as an adult male. His identity will not be released until next of kin has been notified.

This is being investigated as a suspicious death, and the deceased’s body will be transported to the office of the chief medical examiner.

Officers are awaiting the results of the medical examiner’s findings as well as any evidence collected from the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
