Fluvanna Wineries get Added to Monticello Wine Trail
Two wineries in Fluvanna County are being added to the Monticello Wine Trail and owners say the change will put their product on the map.
FLUVANNA COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Two wineries in Fluvanna County are being added to the Monticello Wine Trail and owners say the change will put their product on the map.
The owners of Cunningham Creek Winery and Thistle Gate Vineyard have been working together for more than five years to get their properties added to the wine trail. Now, the Monticello American Viticulture Area has expanded to include the two Fluvanna County wineries.
Owners say that being a part of the AVA boosts their wine’s reputation and will be great for boosting business.
“It puts our wine in the same category as the Monticello grape-growing region, which tells the customers there are high-quality grapes around here,” said co-owner of Cunningham Creek Winery Bruce Deal.
The Monticello AVA currently includes portions of Albemarle, Orange, Greene, and Nelson counties.
Owners say that getting the expansion approved by the Tax and Trade Bureau was a long process. They want to also thank many members of the wine-making community for helping make their inclusion possible.
