Press Release from Virginia Distillery Company:
LOVINGSTON, Va. (Dec. 21, 2018) – Virginia Distillery Company presented a $5,000 check to the Nelson County humane society, Almost Home, during a celebration event yesterday.
The distillery raised the $5,000 through its Charity Cask program, an annual initiative that supports a local nonprofit through net proceeds of a unique whisky cask. This year’s offering was a Coffee Cask Finished Virginia-Highland Whisky made in collaboration with Charlottesville cold brew coffee company Snow in Space. The whisky was released earlier this year at the distillery during a “Whiskers & Whisky” event on Aug. 18 that included Almost Home pets available for adoption.
In 2017, proceeds from the inaugural Charity Cask benefited Nelson County First Responder teams. This year, the distillery selected Almost Home as a partner after input from the Virginia Distillery Company staff and a public voting process on social media channels. Committed to supporting local organizations that benefit the community of Nelson County, Virginia Distillery Company and plans to open voting for its 2019 Charity Cask partner early next year.
“The Nelson County community is such an important part of who we are,” Virginia Distillery Company’s CEO Gareth H. Moore said. “We love this release because it’s not only a great collaboration with local partner Snowing in Space, but an opportunity to give back as well.”
The Coffee Cask Finished Virginia-Highland Whisky is part of a line-up of several other offerings from Virginia Distillery Company, including the distillery’s Port Cask Finished Virginia-Highland Whisky, Cider Cask Finished Virginia-Highland Whisky, Chardonnay Cask Finished Virginia-Highland Whisky and Brewers Batch Virginia-Highland Whisky.
The distillery is currently crafting its ultra-premium American Single Malt, Courage & Conviction, at the distillery. The flagship offering, made from 100 percent malted barley and aged in former Bourbon, Sherry and Cuvée wine casks, will be released in the Spring of 2020 after four years of aging. Additional expressions will follow in the Fall of 2020. The name is a nod to a phrase founder Dr. George G. Moore was often heard saying: “Always have the courage of your convictions”.
