Stuarts Draft Man Faces 2nd-Degree Murder Charges Following Friend's Death

STUARTS DRAFT, Va. (WVIR) - A Stuarts Draft man is charged with second-degree murder in the death of his long-time friend.
Court records show James Michael Wheeler has a plea hearing set for Friday, December 14, in Chesterfield County.
According to a search warrant recently unsealed in Augusta County, Chesterfield County police found the victim, Bruce Garnett, stabbed to death in his apartment back in April of 2017. However, investigators believe he was killed a month earlier than that.
In August of 2017, a person allegedly informed police that Wheeler confessed and accused Garnett of owing him a large sum of money.
The search warrant also details a 20-year friendship between Wheeler and Garnett that may have included some sexual activity.
