CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - A University of Virginia professor is throwing her name in the ring to run for Virginia's 57th District seat that's currently held by David Toscano.

Sally Hudson announced her campaign on Tuesday, December 4, to represent the district that covers the city of Charlottesville and parts of Albemarle County.

On Tuesday, she thanked Toscano for his service but says "I think Charlottesville is ready for new leadership, and Charlottesville is ready to lead."

Hudson is hosting a campaign launch party on Wednesday night at Champion Brewery in Charlottesville.
