Human Remains Found Along John Warner Parkway in Albemarle County
An investigation is underway in Albemarle County after police say human remains were found along a trail near the 1200 block of the John Warner Parkway.
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - An investigation is underway in Albemarle County after police say human remains were found along a trail near the 1200 block of the John Warner Parkway.
Search and rescue teams were out combing the area for a good portion of the afternoon on Thursday, November 8.
Crews found the remains around 4 p.m. Thursday and say the identity of the remains is unknown.
Several search and rescue cars and several K9 units lined the shoulder of the parkway for several hours.
The county says the trail is currently closed for the remainder of Thursday night and Friday and that there is no present threat to the community.
Albemarle County Police Department Press Release Update at 9:50 p.m.:
Today at 4:00 p.m., the Albemarle County Police Department, with the assistance of the Department of Emergency Management, located human remains in the 1200 block of the John W. Warner Parkway Trail. The identity of the remains is unknown and will be pending confirmation from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia.
This is an ongoing investigation and no further information will be released at this time. There is no threat to public safety. The portion of the trail located along the John W. Warner Parkway will remain closed until further notice.

The Albemarle County Police Department is currently investigating a suspicious circumstance in the area of the John W. Warner Parkway Trail. This investigation will close the trail for the remainder of tonight and into tomorrow. There is no immediate threat to our community.
