Updated: Abigail Spanberger Claims 7th District Over Dave Brat
As of 11 p.m. on Tuesday, the race for Virginia's 7th Congressional District is too close to call.
RICHMOND, Va. (WVIR) - The Associated Press has named Democrat Abigail Spanberger the winner of Virginia's 7th Congressional District. She defeated incumbent Republican Dave Brat with 170,737 votes to Brat's 165,899 votes. As of 12:10 a.m., one precinct has yet to report.
Still hours after polls closed, the winner of the 7th District was too close to call. Spanberger was named the winner shortly after midnight on November 7.
Brat has represented Virginia's 7th District for the previous two terms after his 2014 primary win over former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.
Spanberger is a former CIA undercover operative and a first-time candidate.
The 7th District includes Louisa and Orange counties.
