ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Some public safety workers in Albemarle County will see a pay raise starting on January 1.

The county explained the new pay scale system during Tuesday’s board meeting at the Emergency Communication Center.

Human Resources worked with police, fire rescue, and the sheriff’s office to create the new system based primarily on employees’ years of experience. They said the system is transparent with salary information and opportunity for promotions.

“We decided to implement the public safety step scales because we felt that we needed to be competitive and retain and attract our employees,” said Dana Robb of Albemarle County Human Resources. “The step scale will allow the employees to see exactly where they would be placed on a scale to that is a great recruitment tool.”

The county started working on the system about a year and a half ago. The system will go into effect at the start of 2019.
