CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - A local library is holding an event for book-lovers in the area to expand their book collection.

The Gordon Avenue Library in Charlottesville is putting on the Friends of the Library book sale. The sale has been going on for 50 years and thousands of books are sold throughout several available genres.

The manager of the sale said people underestimate the benefits of reading.

“It’s very important for cognitive development, especially in young children, and it’s important to understand how other people feel and experience the world,” said Peter Manno, the sale’s manger. “It’s a way to get time to yourself and to transport yourself more actively.”

The book sale runs until November 11 with new books put out every day.
