Union Members Protest Poor Work Conditions in Augusta County Business

AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Members of a union who work at an Augusta County business protested Thursday afternoon, citing poor work conditions.
The members of United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America Union rallied in front of Daikin in Verona on Thursday. The union says Daikin announced it was moving some manufacturing work to Mexico.
The union also claims that the heating and air conditioning company is violating employee rights by requesting some employees go on unemployment while scheduling union members to work more weekends than allowed by the collective bargaining agreement.
“We thought we were working together and trying to move forward, but it seems like the only time we can get them to hear the voice is when we come out here and show their concern,” said union president Wesley Henshaw.
The group had previously rallied in July and says those concerns were addressed.
