CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - With just one day left to register to vote in Virginia, 5th District Democratic candidate Leslie Cockburn brought in some serious star power for a campaign rally at the Jefferson Theater Sunday.
Leslie Cockburn’s daughter is actress Olivia Wilde, who has starred in numerous movies and television shows. She, alongside her long-time partner, actor Jason Sudeikis, made an appearance, cheering on Cockburn.
The rally featured musical performances from musicians across the 5th District.Outside the rally, volunteers also set up voter registration tables, as well as absentee ballot boxes so people could drop off their votes early.
Cockburn says this was an important night for the campaign, as they get ready for elections just a little over 3 weeks away.
“We have huge momentum in this campaign so this is the time to really celebrate what's going on here,” she stated. “We built an army throughout the whole district. It was very exciting, my children were here tonight and that was really lovely, but we brought together a lot of people on stage.”
Earlier in the day, Cockburn and her daughter and son-in-law canvassed throughout Charlottesville, surprising a few people with the celebrity appearances.
After the rally, Cockburn and supporters launched another canvassing effort from the Jefferson Theater across several Charlottesville neighborhoods.
