AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - People are saying farewell to a young great horned owl as it takes flight into the sky.

The Wildlife Center of Virginia released the owl amidst a field full of people in Grottoes on Friday, October 12.

The owl was admitted into the center on March 27 after an Augusta County homeowner found the bird in the front yard. Besides having a few parasites, staff reported the owl to be in good health.

Now, after flying well for the last couple of weeks, the center set the bird free around 6 p.m. Friday.
