Western Albemarle High School running back Austin Shifflett has been named the Falcon Club Player of the Week.

Shifflett rushed for 164 yards and had five touchdowns Friday in Western Albemarle's 42-7 win over Monticello.

"A lot of it was just the offensive line," says Shifflett.  "They did their job.  They got their blocks, opened up the holes and allowed me to get in to space and make some plays happen."

WAHS head coach Ed Redmond says, "I think Austin is a very patient runner, he finds his blockers.  He's got one extra speed that he can hit once he hits the hole.  I think probably his best quality is he finishes his runs.  It seems like the pile is always going the offense's way."

Shifflett has over 800 yards rushing this season averaging six yards per carry.     The sophomore has 12 touchdowns in Western's six games.   Western Albemarle has a record of 4-2 and plays at Orange County Friday.
