CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Saturday was the official beginning of a Charlottesville Ale Trail, a concept that links six breweries all within about two miles of one another.

Six breweries worked with the city's Office of Economic Development to implement the idea for the Charlottesville Ale Trail.

Six breweries in Downtown Charlottesville, including Champion Brewery, Random Row and several others have partnered with the city to launch the trail.

All of the establishments plan to co-host events with one another in efforts to promote the trail and surrounding businesses.

“It gives people the opportunity to see what kind of amazing beer that our breweries here in Charlottesville are making...the idea of a walking trail is a great idea for people to not only walk between our breweries but in the meantime pass by all the other shops and restaurants,” said Sean Chandler from  Champion Brewing Company.

The city and some of the founding breweries worked on this initiative for several years.

Officials hope the trail will not only promote the six participating breweries, but also encourage locals and tourists to walk throughout the city and support other businesses in the area as well.
