ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - With flu season just around the corner, some experts say it’s not too early to start protecting yourself from catching the flu.
Officials at Thomas Jefferson Health District say a new flu vaccine is released every year, and this year's is out.

The district has not received its supply yet, but some other places have. Health officials say if you get your shot now it will protect you through the peak of flu season.

“Typically in the United States [flu season] is from October to but it is not too early if you're well and have a flu shot available to you, you can go ahead and get your flu shot," said Nancy Santoski of Thomas Jefferson Health.

Thomas Jefferson Health District recommends all people age six months and older get the flu vaccine as soon as it's available.
