AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - An off-the-beaten-path treasure in the valley is getting some national attention.

Reader's Digest named Natural Chimneys Regional Park in Mount Solon Virginia's Hidden Gem.

The chimneys are named for the seven limestone formations that have been created by nature over millions of years.

Just this summer, the campground got a brand new stage in time for the annual Red Wing Roots Music Festival.

Supervisor Marshall Pattie says the attention is an opportunity to capitalize on tourism.

"We know we need to make some more improvements,” Pattie said. “But with the music festival every summer, that's been a great success. It's starting to get more and more popular, and I think this is something that we need to invest in and make sure that we're prepared for some of the influx that we do expect."

Natural Chimneys is also home to an annual jousting competition, which will take place on Saturday, August 18, starting at 10 a.m.
