CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - It's almost time for students to go back to school, and this weekend is a good time to save on some essentials.

Virginia's tax-free weekend kicks off on Friday, August 3.

You can shop for school supplies, clothing, and some appliances without having to worry about added taxes.

It's also a good time to get items tax-free for storm and emergency preparedness.

“So the weather has been, you know, not favorable, so you know there's a lot of thunderstorms lately, so if you have any downed trees or anything like that, a chainsaw could be needed, so why not take advantage of the weekend and get a chainsaw tax-free,” says Chip Carter, the assistant store manager at Lowe’s in Charlottesville.

You have until Sunday night to take advantage of the deals.
